1.Introduction

In introducing a programme for the young gifted player one must have a plan, decide how they are going to implement such a plan and more importantly how to maintain the programme and continually improve it. PFC coaches work to a set technical programme as detailed by the Director of Coaching, ensuring that every session is well organised, imaginative and challenging for every player.

“Any child who comes to the PFC Academy will leave a better human being, and a better player,” says Director Russell Burling.

We also remember that football is about having fun! Although striving to win is very important PFC does not adhere to a ‘win at all costs’ philosophy. Attaining a good psychological balance, which results in a drive for continuous improvement will in the long-term provide better results. Our Academy coaches have the experience to look beyond the next session or game when it comes to the development of a young player. The development of basic skills in the early years far outweighs winning in the early years that’s why PFC teaches technique from U6’s to U12’s – the Golden Age of Learning.

“Once a player has learned a trick or skill, it’s like learning to ride a bike, it sticks with you for life,” Lee Waddington, Coaching Director.

All coaches involved in the PFC Player Development Academy are FA qualified, CRB vetted (enhanced) and have Premier League Academy coaching experience.
